SHANGHAI, July 30, 2014 – PPG Industries’ (NYSE: PPG) protective and marine coatings (PMC) business sponsored the recent 2014 Bring on the Heat China conference, hosted by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) International and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Changzhou Paint & Coatings Industry Research Institute. The two-day event in Shanghai attracted nearly 200 representatives from research institutions and enterprises in the chemical and coatings industries.

Milton Chen, PPG general manager, PMC, Asia Pacific, helped welcome attendees, and Michael MeLampy, PPG business development director, high-temperature coatings, PMC, served as conference chair and made three technical presentations.

“We see growing demand from Chinese petrochemical companies for reliable high-performance coatings that provide excellent CUI (corrosion under insulation) protection for both their new projects and facilities more than 10 years old to ensure the safety of property and staff,” Chen said. “As the main sponsor of the symposium, PPG is delighted to meet so many guests and experts to discuss issues concerning corrosion protection. I hope the symposium can bring up new ideas for the corrosion-protection coatings industry.”

MeLampy presented on “Coatings for Use in Insulated Service and NACE SP0198-10,” “Industrial Spray-Applied Insulating Coatings” and “CUI Coatings Qualification Testing Methods.” He used profession-specific cases to illustrate important features of CUI coatings.

PPG manufactures leading CUI coatings products such as HI-TEMP 1027® coating, which can withstand extreme temperatures from -185C to 650C to protect both carbon steel and stainless steel substrates. The coating has been used widely in refineries, petrochemical plants, pulp and paper mills, and power plants for the last 10 years, and it can help reduce facility downtime by being applied for maintenance while equipment is hot and operating.

PPG’s PMC business is dedicated to the development, manufacture and supply of innovative coatings that meet the challenging needs of commercial and industrial facilities for the oil and gas chemical processing, infrastructure, power, offshore, marine and other industries. In March 2014, PPG completed its acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Hi-Temp Coatings Technology Co., Inc., enhancing its PMC product portfolio.
