MEXICO CITY, Sept. 8, 2016 – As part of its global community engagement efforts, PPG (NYSE: PPG) has announced that three COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ projects are being completed by PPG Comex in Mexico in August and September, helping to revitalize buildings at three educational institutions. Two projects have been completed in Mexico City, and one is planned this month in Guadalajara, with a total investment for the three of about $66,000 (about 1.2 million pesos).

The Colorful Communities program promotes the engagement of PPG employees with communities where the company operates, and about 100 PPG Comex associates volunteered their time for these three projects. The volunteers are using about 86 gallons (326 liters) of COMEX® paints and waterproof coatings to add color and protection to educational buildings at: the Maka Wiener Association in the Iztapalapa neighborhood, the Foundation for Educational Assistance (FAE) in the Chimalhuacan suburb, and the Association for Children and Teenagers in Harmony in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

“We are excited to bring the Colorful Communities program to Mexico, building awareness of how PPG extends the Comex brand’s long tradition of supporting our neighborhoods,” said Lidya Fresnedo, PPG Comex manager of public relations and social responsibility. “A key part of the program involves our employees, who bring PPG into their communities by volunteering to help beautify the areas we call ‘home.’”

Fresnedo added, “As a leading paints and coatings company, PPG is committed to turning color into an ally within classrooms in Mexico and around the world, to promote an environment of educational progress. Because color conveys sensory stimuli – for example, blue increases focus and enhances creativity, while red promotes attention – adding color at these three sites will help enhance learning for the students while giving the buildings a brighter look.”

The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative for community engagement efforts, with the aim to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. The program increases PPG’s commitment to invest in communities by adding $10 million to support efforts made during a 10-year period. Together with community partners and PPG employees who volunteer, it supports projects that transform community assets using donated PPG products. PPG completed 11 Colorful Communities projects in 2015, and it expects to complete about 30 more this year.

PPG and the PPG Foundation aim to bring color and brightness to PPG communities around the world. We donated more than $7.8 million in 2015 to hundreds of community organizations across 20 countries. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today’s skilled workforce and develop tomorrow’s innovators in industries related to coatings and specialty materials. Plus, we empower PPG employees to make an impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving.
