In today’s market, there are many variables in a ship’s operation, such as fuel cost, operational activity, ship speed, freight rates, and slow steaming that require a multitude of decisions to be made for optimizing vessel performance.
This includes choosing the right antifouling product for the ship at new-build and/or dry dock application. In order to provide an optimal solution for all different scenarios, PPG offers the following categories of antifoulings, which are grouped around specific performance characteristics designed to simplify the decision-making process.
These are products engineered to deliver fuel savings through their optimal smoothness characteristics right from the outset. This product range includes technologies such as 100% pure silicone biocide-free fouling release and instant smoothness, hydrolysis antifouling based on an organic-activated surface, and controlled surface-active polymers (CSP).

This product range supports fuel-saving programs, idle-day tolerance as well as reduction of the environmental footprint and includes:
If reducing energy is the main goal, our Fuel Saver products have been developed with the primary aim of achieving the maximum level of fuel savings to help lower the total operational cost. This product range includes a one-step hydrolysis pure silyl acrylate antifouling:
These performance products deliver consistent performance in all operating conditions. Over many years of deployment, at about 6 million m2 each year, these products have gained an excellent track record. This product range includes hydrolysable PPG patented binder and paint composition grades known as:
This product delivers basic performance in all operating conditions. Over many years of deployment, this product has gained an excellent track record (238A/ABC4). This product range includes the self-polishing product:
The antifouling/fouling release product ranges above include the following products:
The SIGMA ECOFLEET range offers reliable antifouling performance backed up by an extensive track record on more than 10,000 ships with 7 million m2 applied annually. The technology has been adapted to ensure that all ship types, speeds and operation activities can be accommodated.
The SIGMA NEXEON antifouling range is based on linear self-polishing binder technology and instant low friction high performance/low roughness actives. This provides up to 25% lower roughness at application and therefore contributing to about 2.5% fuel savings right from day one when the ship starts sailing.
The SIGMA SAILADVANCE series is based upon an extensive range of high-performance technologies including self-lubricating, hydrolysis, silyl acrylate and PPG Industries patented technologies. Benefits include fuel savings, idle time tolerance, linear polishing and low friction.
Based on a 100% pure silicone binder system, our SIGMAGLIDE 1290 fouling release coating utilizes breakthrough dynamic surface regeneration technology to eliminate slime problems and dramatically increase fuel savings throughout service.
