PPG PSX® Technology
PPG PSX Technology: Advancing the Industry's Original Polysiloxane Coatings Technology
Although they have been on the market for more than 25 years, polysiloxane coatings continue to represent the most significant technical advance in ambient-cure coatings since polyurethane topcoats were introduced in the 1950s.
The technology was developed when chemists overcame the basic incompatibility of cold blends of organic and silicone resins by reacting functional groups on the two materials to form a co-polymer. This opened the door to the creation of polysiloxaneorganic hybrids, which could be formulated to achieve unprecedented combinations of aesthetic and protection-related performance properties – specifically, exceptional weatherability, color and gloss retention, and outstanding corrosion and abrasion resistance.
Due to their versatility and performance, polysiloxane coatings have become the technology of choice for assets in the world’s most extreme environments, such as oil and gas platforms; bridges; piping; storage tanks; heavy-duty equipment; wind turbines; stadiums; roller coasters; naval vessels; commercial ships and other environmentally challenged infrastructure and superstructural components.
ISO 12944 protection with true C4 and C5 solutions
For architects and specifying engineers identifying the ideal ISO 12944 protection for assets in the field, PPG's full range of polysiloxane coatings offer the appropriate durability against corrosion. The latest PPG PSX coatings technology delivers true C4 and C5 solutions, providing added protection in highly corrosive environments, previously not possible with polysiloxane coatings. In interior C4 applications like stadiums or chemical plants, C4 solutions can be attained with one-coat, PPG PSX coatings technology (historically requiring two-coat solutions). In exterior highly corrosive C5 environments like industrial or coastal applications with moderate salinity, C5 solutions can be achieved with a two-coat system (historically requiring three-coat solutions).
PPG PSX 700 and PPG PSX 805 coatings that are applied directly onto metal in a single coat demonstrated corrosion resistance that meets high C4 requirements, which estimate a durability range of 15 to 25 years.

PPG PSX® 700 SG and the U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command
Our high performance protective coating is made for critical military asset protection. The PPG PSX 700 Series is included in PPG's contract by the U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command (MSC) due to its excellent adhesion, outstanding corrosion and chemical resistance, long-term gloss and color retention, and easy application. When this innovative coating is combined with PPG's High-Build Epoxy Coatings, it significantly outlasts the best three-coat systems.
